ENTREPRENEURSHIP
big steps // little girl
I knew I was going to become a journalist. It is my passion, so there were no hesitations on my end. Little did I know I would discover my passion for leading others the way I had been so graciously led. It sounds cliche' but I was driving home from the Michigan State University's Big 10 Journalism Day when it hit me: I wanted to start up my own women's studies magazine. Having always dreamed of working for a magazine as a journalist, this dream was much more than that.
While I know it is a big undertaking and a difficult task to take on, I have what I need to push me; passion. I realized that I had been fortunate enough to be taught under a teacher who fueled my love for journalism and more specifically, believed in my ability to write about women's studies. The thought is that the magazine would potentially create opportunities for young journalists like myself, with a passion for writing and women, to travel the world to study and learn about women's cultures around the world. Young journalists would have the opportunity to intern here because I believe that if one truly devotes oneself to something they believe in, they should be presented with the chance to make something of it. Having always been a feminist at heart, I wanted to create a magazine not based around hair, skin or makeup products, but rather based around women and the way their brains work, the ways they interact in places around the world, and women's health instead of women's beauty. |
